Hôtel le Saint-Aubin

I came back on May 31st 2024 for two nights, after having stayed here many times up until about eight years earlier. I wish I'd gone elsewhere. It was extremely overpriced, and I've stayed in 2-star hotels that were far better. Whatever your situation, even sleeping in your car would be better. The place is in a high state of disrepair, including the shower and heating, and what is shown in the online pictures shouldn't be trusted. Somehow, over those eight years, it had become the Indian kitsch central of France. The old French management did a better job. The current management has ruined the place. On Saturday morning, June 1st 2024, staff started hitting dust out of the chair cushions right beside our table while we were eating breakfast. Breakfast costs 10,5 euros per person, but the choices were so poor you could end up paying that just for coffee. My wife tried a boiled egg, but couldn't eat it because it looked spoiled before it was boiled. At checkout, the manager acted as if he were our boss. He told me over the phone to leave the key at reception, then hung up. I first spoke to him in French, and he replied in English. When I continued in English, he hung up again. He thinks he can speak English and French, but he can't.

We rode from Dieppe, five of us, and they washed our bikes and stored them safely. There's an excellent curry restaurant in the basement, and the stay was great value. Stay here!

The staff and management were welcoming and accommodating, and they were especially helpful to cyclists travelling between Dieppe and Paris. Rooms were comfortable and well maintained, with a reasonable price. The Indian food in the restaurant isn't bad for France, where this cuisine has less of a tradition than in the UK. The hotel is 21/2 km out of town, so getting to other bars or restaurants means a long walk or a taxi.

We were a British cycling group staying here. The night before, we sat together in reception to talk, and a man came over saying there had been complaints about us talking, even though we were the only people there. The receptionist had called him because they didn't want British people in the hotel. When my husband asked why we had to move, the man said, “You British people, we don't like you, you don't listen, you are disrepair,” and so on. We hadn't been rude; we'd only asked why we couldn't sit and talk together. He was very aggressive and rude.
