Residhotel Grenette

I was going to Grenoble for an academic conference, but my flight to France was cancelled because of the ongoing Middle East conflict. Many international flights were suspended, and there was nothing I could do about it. Even after I explained and asked whether a partial refund was possible, the hotel charged the full cancellation fee. As a research student with limited money, that was very difficult. I understand hotels have policies, but the complete lack of flexibility in such an extraordinary situation was disappointing. Be careful booking here if your travel plans might be disrupted.

I was in Grenoble for one night of business and won't be coming back. The lift was out of service, so I had to carry my suitcase up the stairs to the third floor. When I asked about it later, the receptionist said, «that's why our prices are not expensive». The guy at reception was rude and angry, without even a smile. Reception is the first impression of a hotel, and this was not professional at all.

The kitchenette was excellent, with more than enough utensils and cutlery. The room was in a lovely, lively part of the city, with plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby, and Victor Hugo tram station only a two-minute walk away. The shower and bathroom could use better plumbing and maintenance. Also, there isn't a bidet in the toilet.

The staff were really welcoming, and the room was clean with a very comfortable bed. It's in a great spot in the city centre, close to a tram stop. My room was quite dark because the main lamp wasn't working, and the bathroom had just one light, so it was dark too. There was also a bad smell coming from the bathroom.
