Hotel Le Ginestel

The free parking was really handy, and the bed and air conditioning helped us sleep well. We used the hotel as a one-night stop while travelling along the French Riviera, and it was fine for that, though I think it could be a very good place for a longer stay if the details were better looked after. The surroundings were pleasant, with a good pool and comfortable facilities. Our room had a small terrace, which was a nice feature, but its table and chairs were quite worn and the wall needed fresh paint. The shower was loose, making it hard to use comfortably and spraying water out at the sides. Also, the rubbish bag hadn’t been changed after the previous guests. To me, it has the makings of a good hotel, but those details need attention.

The sheets were stained and the floor hadn’t been cleaned. This hotel needs to get competent staff to clean the rooms properly, especially during a health crisis. They gave us only €2 off a €111 room, yes, really. I can’t recommend it.

The area is pleasant and the room has some potential, but it badly needs refreshing. The pool had a sign saying “under cleaning,” yet it clearly hadn’t been cleaned for a while. The welcome was almost comical: a very unprofessional man in flip-flops took ages to find our reservation, said there were no rooms, then finally offered us a choice of two, phew. After that he disappeared for quite a while, and guests had to look for him. The whole stay felt very average, and the price was far too high for the service. I’ll remember that odd mix of nonchalance and no restraint for a long time.

The pool is magnificent, and there’s a garage for parking. The setting is beautiful, though it needs renovation, and the rooms feel like they’re still in the 1970s. Breakfast staff didn’t seem very courteous or prepared, and there were lots of mosquitoes.
