Domaine des Grattières

The views from the terrace and garden were a highlight. The guesthouse sits partway up a hill, and at night it was so dark and quiet that the vineyards and village only appeared below us as the sun came up. We visited in autumn, so the plants and lawn were especially lovely with the fall colors. Inside, everything was spotless and comfortable. The rooms and facilities aren't luxurious, but they have a simple, refined feel that reflects the owner's good taste. Amenities are limited, as the booking information says, so bring your own hairdryer, toothbrushes, and other toiletries. Towels and shampoo are provided. We came from Japan and were welcomed so kindly by the owner. We asked about a red light blinking in the distance the night before, and he explained it was an aviation warning light on a wind power plant. That led to a fascinating conversation about France's energy policy, which became a special memory from our trip. We were happy to be their first Japanese guests. Breakfast was a tasty buffet with bread, cheese, yogurt, and coffee. This is a lovely place for visiting Champagne wineries or simply having a quiet break in nature. The scenery and warm hospitality made it feel worth more than the room price. We'd happily return if we visit the region again.
