La Grange en Champagne

We booked and paid for the gite with a kitchen for my partner, our dog, and me, but on arrival we were told it wasn't available and were given a room in the main house instead. We accepted that, though it meant eating sandwiches without a kitchen, but there was no apology or decent customer service. It felt like we'd inconvenienced them by booking the day before a wedding. When they showed us the room, we were told not to touch some beds because they were made up for the wedding. They also seemed horrified that we had a dog and repeatedly made clear he shouldn't touch anything. The room had dusty surfaces, plug sockets hanging off the wall, and a broken curtain rail. There was almost no soundproofing, so we could hear every word from the neighboring guests. We didn't complain about any of that, but checking out was the last straw: they asked us to pay an extra fee for the dog. Normally I'd be happy to pay, but after getting a different room with no kitchen and no breakfast, surely someone with decent customer service would have waived it. She argued with us and was really unpleasant. I speak fluent French, so this wasn't a language issue. Honestly, it's one of the worst places we've stayed, and I can't understand the good reviews. We were also told not to leave our car in the hotel car park because it might get blocked in, so we had to park in the village. The whole time we were made to feel like we were in the way. Avoid!
