La Maison Dayona

The house and room were clean, pleasant, and very peaceful, so we had no complaints about the accommodation itself. It was the lack of flexibility from the host that left us feeling so unwelcome. We’ve stayed at lots of bed and breakfasts and usually enjoy them, even when the hosts aren’t perfect, but this time we felt there was little interest in helping us. When we asked to have breakfast refunded after being told it couldn’t be served earlier, that was refused too. The only suggestion was that we make coffee ourselves in the room. We were driving back to Sweden that day, so even 8am would have helped, and 7am would have been ideal. On the previous morning, we had an appointment in a nearby village at 9:30. We’d mentioned it, but the host said breakfast could only be served exceptionally at 8:45 instead of 9. We had to eat quickly and still arrived 10 minutes late, with people waiting for us. For our first evening, we’d made extra stops on the way so the host could attend an appointment at 5pm. We got there around 7:30, which was fine with us, but when we asked to use the terrace for a simple dinner of cheese, ham, and wine, we were told to eat in our room, despite the nice weather and 25°C. Some help finding a comfortable spot in town would have been appreciated. Instead, hungry, we took the first place we found, on the grass by the town hall. The host said, “I’m not working as a hotel.” True, but we chose a bed and breakfast for the personal contact, often with kind and friendly people, and that wasn’t our experience this time. I don’t usually take the time to leave positive or negative reviews, but this felt like too much. I also checked the website, Facebook, and Booking.com and couldn’t find any mention of breakfast being served only between 9 and 10am.

The breakfast was generous and had plenty of variety, and the room was more comfortable than some hotels we’ve stayed in. As first-timers at a bed and breakfast, we were pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and good quality it was. The host was really friendly and gave us great tips for planning our day trips. It’s right among the Christmas markets, which made the location ideal. I’d highly recommend it.

For visiting the lovely Alsatian villages, the location worked perfectly. Sandrine welcomed us so warmly and was incredibly attentive, with great suggestions for the nearby Christmas markets. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

The pool was a lovely place to spend time, and breakfast worked well for the whole family. Each morning there was a thoughtful chance to try an Alsatian specialty. Sandrine gave us a warm welcome, and the rooms and house were clean, bright, and furnished with great taste. Thanks for everything and for all the positive vibes.
