The terrace made for a lovely meal, with warm service, and the pool catches beautiful evening light. There’s a real sense of space inside, especially around the grand staircase. It feels like a charming summer castle, not overdone, and it’s a comfortable historic holiday home. Breakfast is good, though I missed having local cheese. The breakfast room is so inviting it makes you want to work there, and the 4G signal is good too.

The owner makes a superb white wine, and the garden around this 19th century mansion is lovely. It’s a wonderful bed and breakfast, beautifully restored.

We made good use of the swimming pool, even in September. The château is wonderful, and the park around it is lovely.
