Les Granges d'Ignaux

The rooms are great, but the place is overpriced and the owner was unpleasant and unwelcoming. They wouldn’t be flexible about an earlier breakfast. We were setting off on a multi-day hike, so an early start was vital, and roadworks on the road to Ax would have forced us to take a big detour. The owner would only serve breakfast at 7:45, while the roadworks began at 08:30. They also wanted a ridiculous amount to run a machine wash, when it usually costs 2 euros.

The rooms are spacious, but even the chandelier looked as though it hadn’t been dusted in a long time. Breakfast was very basic, just the bare minimum, and the garden needed attention, with trees to prune and nettles to pull. The setting could be lovely, which makes it a shame that the place feels as if rooms are being rented for money rather than out of passion. We found the welcome quite cold compared with the B&Bs we visit each year. I wouldn’t really recommend it to regular B&B guests.

The food was disappointing too: breakfast was just passable, with little choice of fruit or bread, no pastries, and nothing homemade. The room was spacious, as you’d expect for a family room, but it lacked finishing touches. The bathroom felt old-fashioned and the taps were very noisy. There was no soundproofing, and the floor was so loud we could hear every movement from the people in the neighboring rooms.

The surrounding landscapes were the one good part of our stay. Inside the gîte, the welcome felt cold. At Sunday breakfast, the other guests seemed to receive a warm greeting while we felt like outsiders. After a skiing accident left me with mobility issues, I couldn’t count on much help from the owner. Once our rental time was up, it was made clear we were intruding, and I had to wait on a chair outside. It was sunny, but still, being left out there was shameful. I don’t recommend this place for these reasons.
