Campanile Mulhouse - Illzach Ile Napoleon

Friendly staff, good Wi-Fi, and the breakfast was good too. The room, though, smelled awful as soon as we opened the door and looked old and dirty. We struggled to find the bathroom light, then found mold, a cracked sink, and stained towels. The sheets smelled as if a dog had been lying in the bed. I was so worried about how dirty the room seemed that I couldn't sleep, thinking bugs might crawl along the wall. Someone travelling with me said they rent rooms by the hour. I can't say if that's true, but the hotel gave them that impression. Dinner wasn't good either. I might normally call myself picky, but we were with a big group and most people left their meals unfinished. I didn't pick this hotel, and I really hope I never have to stay here again.

We booked through booking.com and told them we'd arrive after 23:00. They said that was fine and asked us to call reception on the day. On our way from Corsica, I called and got the rudest, most arrogant and disrespectful receptionist I've ever spoken to. I'm Brazilian-Italian and my partner is Dutch. My French was good enough to explain our late arrival, though English is easier for me. He first refused to speak English because we were in France, then switched to it when I couldn't explain things more clearly in French. When I asked, “So you do speak English?” he told me in French, “va a la mrd,” meaning “go f* yourself.” After that, he kept repeating that they closed at 24:00, no matter what I said or asked. I've worked as a secretary and receptionist all my life, speak eight languages, and have always been excellent at my job. This was absolutely unacceptable. I asked for someone else, but he said he was the only one there and swore at me again. Now we're in Italy, heading home through France with no room or hotel, and we've lost almost 100 euros. SHAME ON YOU CAMPANILLE! !!!!

Everything else was fine, but at 8am the cleaners on the top floor started moving furniture around. It went on for two hours and sounded like someone was having a party overhead. Horrible.

Once again, the staff were great, but the building let them down. It's tired and scruffy throughout and needs refurbishing. Even repainting the interior doors would help. The outside is best left unmentioned.
