La Chevrie - Chambres d'Hôtes

We used a Smartbox for a weekend getaway, and our first stay in a gypsy caravan was full of cozy, authentic charm. The host was incredibly welcoming, and our son was thrilled to see goats all around. We all loved it and would happily come back if we get the chance.

We booked two nights with breakfast through Smartbox, and it was a huge disappointment. The owner barely greeted us, with only a curt “welcome at the door.” They were friendly to a family on the last day, and I wondered if the difference was because we were a gay couple. There was no Wi-Fi, the ventilation was noisy, and the shower drained badly. The caravan had a tiny TV and a small room. The toilet was so cramped that your knees hit the door when it was closed, and the shower was small too. There was no hand soap. We got two old towels but no hand towel, and the small common room was dirty with no hot water. Breakfast was basic: bad industrial bread, weak coffee, Leclerc's store-brand yogurt that we had to ask for, and a bad industrial croissant. What a disgrace. You need to take a good look at yourselves. We gave one star because there was no other choice.

The four of us had a wonderful time in the gypsy caravan. It was well equipped and set on a large green space where children could play safely. We could see goats, pigs, and chickens. The welcome was warm, and breakfast was generous. I highly recommend it.

The hostess was welcoming and friendly, but the room had serious problems. It was very damp, with the floor soaked in the morning, especially along the baseboards. The toilet was so cramped that your knees hit the door when it was shut, and one of the pillows in the closet had mold on it. The mattress was incredibly hard, and the soundproofing was poor enough that we could hear the neighbor snoring. Breakfast was adequate, nothing special. What a shame.
