Ibis Jouy en Josas Velizy

Our room for the July 18-20 weekend was clean and nicely decorated, but the heat made it uncomfortable. There was no air conditioning, only a small plug-in desk fan that wasn’t enough. The bigger problem came late on the 18th. We got back from Paris at about 1:20 AM and found the entrance locked. The hotel hadn’t given us magnetic cards for the main doors, only a traditional metal room key. We rang several times and could see the reception area through the glass, but nobody was there. It was very dark outside in the wooded surroundings, with none of the exterior lights on, even those attached to the building. We rang and called the hotel repeatedly for nearly half an hour, but only reached a recorded message. Eventually a man appeared from behind reception and opened the door. He looked as though he’d been asleep. We were already upset, and when we asked why the doors were locked without anyone available to let guests in, Jeremy said he had every right to close them at night for security. He wasn’t sorry, and seemed arrogant about it. If the doors are locked, why wasn’t he at reception to let in guests arriving late or checking in? We were two women alone outside in the dark while he was asleep and not doing his job. The following night, after returning from a wedding celebration, we found the doors open but again couldn’t see any staff. Another guest was having trouble with their room key, so we waited with them in the lobby. About 10 minutes later Jeremy came out from behind the desk, again looking as if he’d just woken up. I would never stay at this hotel again.

A car made staying outside the city work really well for us: parking was free, and we could travel around whenever we wanted. The staff were friendly, and our clean room had a comfortable bed. It was a delightful stay.

We felt very well looked after, and the hotel had a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The staff were helpful, and they even gave us coffees for free early in the morning before checkout. Our room stayed comfortable in the hot weather with its fan and fully opening windows. The location is lovely, by woods and a park, with good public transport nearby. It’s on a quiet road, so there was no traffic noise. The food was basic but tasty. There weren’t tea or coffee making facilities in the room, though you could buy drinks from the bar, which serves 24/7. Nice hotel, and the staff made the stay easy.

The hotel is tucked into a really peaceful area, with lots of greenery for a lovely evening walk. There are bus and tram stops nearby, and the nearest grocery store is a 12-minute walk away. We enjoyed the breakfast, which had plenty of variety and vegan choices. The dining area was pretty and well kept. Our room was cosy, with a good view of the front of the hotel, and reception is open around the clock. The staff were very helpful whenever we needed anything.
