Le Manoir du Lys

The terrace and grounds were quite pretty, but the room was uncomfortable: very hot, cramped, and stuffy, with no fan or air conditioning. There wasn’t a window to open, just a door, and we couldn’t leave it open overnight. The first night’s food was fine. Unfortunately, the protein on the second evening was rubbery.

The staff were all charming and fun, and the food was terrific. The wine was even better. We spent Christmas at the Manoir and had a terrific time. It was comfortable and well appointed without being opulent, which made the stay feel really relaxed. Nothing to do but enjoy!

The tasting menu was an absolute treat, and the service was truly excellent and friendly. This fabulous hotel and restaurant sits in a forest near a championship golf course. It’s family run by the Michelin starred chef.

The rooms have been upgraded since our last visit and were clean and tidy. Ours had a door connecting to another room, though, and we could hear the people there talking when they came back from a wedding. A quick bang on the door got them to quiet down. The grounds are lovely, with one indoor pool and one outdoor pool. We paid €165 for the room and spent €200 on food and drinks in the restaurant, which isn’t cheap. The food is fancy and presented like a work of art, so don’t expect a normal restaurant menu. We skipped breakfast so we could get back on the road to Caen for the ferry, and stopped at McDonalds later, though the breakfast here is good. The staff gave great service, and the food was great.
