Hôtel l'Abbaye d'Alspach

Omg, this hotel feels like a French wine country dream come true. The rooms are big, comfortable, cozy, and private, with a really romantic feel. It's perfectly placed among the vineyards, and the staff are kind.

Kientzheim, about 1 km from Kaysersberg, feels like stepping back in time as you come through the village gates. The quiet streets lead to Hôtel l'Abbaye d'Alspach, and the village feels lived in rather than filled only with tourists. We had dinner locally, then walked at night through the wineyards to Kayserberg for a drink. That walk was the highlight of our trip, simply stunning. We were travelling around Europe by car, so having parking right next to the hotel was especially valuable. Check-in and check-out were easy, and we were greeted with excellent service and helpful information about the village, including a restaurant recommendation. Our room was spacious and up to a good standard, with a private balcony looking over the village rooftops and the mountains behind them. We had no complaints. I'd recommend staying here.

The woman working the afternoon shift was rude, with an unpleasant and unwelcoming manner. The rooms are small, and the bed was hard and very uncomfortable. We left after one night for a much more comfortable Airbnb, but couldn't get even a partial refund for the remaining two nights. The cancellation policy felt really unsympathetic. They wouldn't even offer the one-time cheap, meager breakfast as a courtesy. Very unfriendly. Don't stay here, apartment rentals in the area are much more comfortable.

I've stayed here twice, once with my family and small children, and once on a girls' trip. Both visits were excellent. The hotel is a gem, with clean, comfortable rooms in a historic building full of character. I'm already longing to go back.
