The pools sit right by the river, with one for adults and one for little kids, and the hotel feels refreshing and open. The spacious lobby has several comfortable places to sit and leads into both an open dining area and a separate enclosed one. Breakfast is served in the enclosed dining room: you can have eggs made for you, plus tropical fruit, packaged yogurts, fair pastries, Nutella, two homemade jams, sliced meats and cheeses, and three fresh juices, including orange and cucumber detox water. SCHEILA kept the serving plates stocked and gave us excellent attention with our requests. The front desk staff were attentive too. The venue is accessible apart from the rooftop bar, which you reach by steps. The lobby restrooms for men and women have heavy doors; the dedicated stall has a 4-by-5-foot area and one grab bar.

The grounds are expertly manicured, and the service is awesome, especially from the food and beverage team. Angela was an excellent hostess for our group. It’s a very nice, comfortable hotel, though the hot water was usually only warm at best.

Service was a bit hit or miss, but Giovanni, the front desk manager, was very helpful when we had room issues. We ate dinner out both nights, which worked out perfectly. The hotel is one of the nicest in Paramaribo, with lush grounds, a lovely garden-surrounded pool, and a great breakfast buffet. Our deluxe room was lovely and had a balcony.

The service was top-notch, though at premium prices I suppose that’s expected. It’s a high-end place with a low-key feel. I’d have given it five stars if the air conditioner hadn’t dripped constantly and if I didn’t have to shut the bathroom door to use the toilet.

The staff are professional and friendly, and the restaurant does delicious pizza and exotic ice cream. I had a perfect stay in a nice bungalow by the lake, with a big pool and a good breakfast. It’s the best place to stay in kourou if you want to visit the space center or the papillion islands.
