There are hiking trails, lakes, and waterfalls between La Bresse and Gerardmer, and the residence is very well located for getting to them. It's also right at the foot of the Hohneck slopes in the Labellemontagne resort. I'd recommend renting here.

The building is architecturally ugly, that's the word for it! Still, I had a fantastic week hiking, which is why we came, or for skiing. Ski down the Schlucht Pass and Alsace is right there. It's absolutely gorgeous...

You can get to the ski resort without taking the car, since it's nearby. Intersport is at the bottom of the building and has convenient hours for renting equipment. Next door there's a small, friendly chalet-style restaurant that's practical too.
