Hotel Campanile Orleans Ouest - La Chapelle St Mesmin

Dinner and breakfast were both very good, with hot food on the breakfast buffet, though the meals felt a little expensive. The service was very good too. We’d asked for a double but were given two single beds. Our room was on the second floor, up an outdoor circular staircase in pouring rain. There’s no lift, which wasn’t good for us at 82 and 84 with a dog. I know they can’t control the rain, but I do think a lift is essential. At least we weren’t put on the third floor. The place also feels rather old and could use a revamp.

It’s cheap, so don’t expect much. It wasn’t very clean.

Getting here from the motorway was very easy, and the room was a standard Campanile one, kept very clean. The staff were especially pleasant and welcoming, and spoke English very well. We had plenty of choice at dinner and breakfast, and both meals were good. We tried the Spaghetti Bolognese. It was tasty enough, though not like homemade.

We won’t stay here again. The room showed serious damp along the skirting boards, and the building looked poorly maintained. The stair handrail up to the first floor was badly corroded, with its support rusted through and missing. Paint on the wooden parts was peeling and rotten, which seems like a health and safety risk. The food was poor. The roast chicken looked deep-fried, overcooked outside and tough, while the meat near the middle was pink but seemed cooked. The haricot beans were overdone, the chips were pale and not crisp, and we both left a large portion of the meal, which was hidden underneath the chicken. Service also felt poor, as though staff just wanted to get it over with. We raised the meal with the receptionist on our way out, but they seemed uninterested and said the food is cooked outside and reheated in the kitchen, which is standard practice for Campanile hotels. We paid the bill, then had to ask for a facture. Looking at it, we saw we’d been charged twice for breakfast, an overcharge of 21.80€. The receptionist said they couldn’t issue a refund, but would talk to their supervisor to make sure one was given. It’s been over a week and there’s still been no refund or acknowledgement of the mistake. We contacted the parent company Louvre Hotel after the overcharge was not refunded, but they showed little interest in our complaint.
