Kyriad Direct Orléans Ouest La Chapelle St Mesmin

A couple of minutes’ walk gets you to the tram stop for an evening in the city, and the hotel is only two minutes off the autoroute. We got a warm, efficient welcome in English. Our two superior rooms were small but fully equipped and clean, with comfortable beds and excellent showers. Breakfast was very good for the price: freshly baked croissants, pancakes, bread, cheeses, ham, good coffee and fruit juices. The morning service was warm and efficient again. A great value stopover, thank you very much.

The room was hot and claustrophobic, with no air con or fans. It didn’t look like the photos, and the bathroom was tiny, about the size of a cupboard. There were spiders and bugs in the room too. We had to choose between blocking the light and getting air: the only window coverings were outside shutters, with no curtains or blinds inside. With the shutters down to darken the room, no air could flow. We paid €74, which felt overpriced. I saw it was more like €50 on other days, and that’s what it should charge every day. More like a hostel room.

I accidentally booked the room for a week later than the date I actually needed. When I arrived, I asked to pay for the correct date and cancel the mistaken booking. The woman said she’d speak to the manager, but I never heard back. After the stay I emailed to ask them to cancel it, or at least move it to my trip home. I got no response, but they charged me for the room anyway. Very poor customer service. I’ll never stay at Kyriad again.

We had the family room, which was spacious enough for four and had everything we needed. The room was clear, and the beds and shower were clean. A young lady helped us, who I have to assume was Algerian or Tunesian. Her English was excellent, and she was really nice and helpful. It’s a basic hotel that gets the basics right, and I’d highly recommend it for an overnight stop while travelling.
