Hotel La Rotonde

My vehicle broke down, so I stayed for nearly a week. The staff made me feel welcome, and I honestly can't thank them enough. The rooms were great and clean. I'd really like to come back as a holiday maker.

I paid 20 euros to park ten minutes away because the hotel’s free parking listing on Expedia didn’t match what was available: they have just 5 spaces for 30 (THIRTY) rooms. I’d only given it two stars because the maids and other supportive staff worked hard. Otherwise, this place deserves A STAR. The small room and the rudest manager in a world made the price feel pointless, since another, nicer hotel with more parking and a pool would have cost the same. I arrived at 8-45 p.m. and found nobody at the lobby desk. They say nobody is there after 8 P.M., and being even five minutes late means you’re on your own. I called the emergency number, but the person only spoke French, which I don't speak. With my high school French, I tried to explain that I needed the room number, key, and the parking spot that was advertised on expedia. After ten minutes of hearing only “Oui” and “chambre,” I hung up. I was ready to go elsewhere and ask ecpedia for a refund when the manager appeared. He seemed very drunk and smelled of rum and who knows what. After another 20 minutes of heated discussion, I finally found out the room number and where the key was. I asked him to cover my parking since free parking had been advertised. He refused, then had the nerve to ask for a tax, which I believe should have been waived because of the very poor customer service.

The staff were very kind, and parking is close by at 7 EUR per night. The room, though, was tiny and dark, with dark wallpaper and a very small bathroom. It was hard to get to the toilet because of the door. There was hardly any space in the breakfast room, and the view was poor, looking onto a busy street. The price felt too high for such small spaces. I wouldn't go back.

As a budget hotel it’s okay, and the location is fairly central between the mountain and the harbour. The room had air conditioning, which was good. The room and bathroom were tiny, though, and there’s hardly any street parking. That leaves the very expensive underground parking, which you only find out about when you arrive.
