We picked this place for my 60th birthday. The estate is private and set in gorgeous surroundings, with spacious rooms and plenty of room to spread out. The infinity pool is great, and the owner was mostly responsive during our stay and gave us some good recommendations. My guests had a great time despite everything else, but the experience was taken down a notch by how things went at checkout. The owner’s departure instructions fill a whole page, and he seemed to expect us to give the property a full clean before leaving. He was angry and aggressive toward my guests as we departed. In my opinion, he’s too tight to pay for a cleaning team and expects guests to do the work instead. The owners seem very tight with money. They remove all consumables, including hand soap, soap, and shampoo, and leave just one roll of toilet paper for the whole week. There are no rubbish bags, and guests are expected to take rubbish and recycling to the nearby town, a 10-minute drive away. We had to buy all the kitchen basics ourselves, like oil, salt, and pepper. There are also a lot of extra charges: €10 a week for each pool towel, €25 per room for air conditioning unless the temperature goes above 35°C, €100 a week to hire tennis rackets and balls, and €55 per room for a midweek linen change. We had to ask for the hot tub to be made hot. The TV is very old and not great for watching the World Cup or similar; luckily, I brought a streaming device, though the remote was for another TV. The internet was poor, making streaming very challenging, and it didn’t work at all for the first three days. The owner blamed my guests for damage to a gate, then later admitted it could have been caused by a previous guest. Comments like “we don't make any money with Third Home visits” didn’t feel welcoming. I’m not sure they can see things from the customer’s perspective. They try, but it doesn’t seem to come naturally, and I think they’ll need some hospitality training to become successful holiday home operators.
