La Grenouillere

We chose this place for our anniversary dinner and had an excellent evening. Every flavor and dish felt carefully considered, right down to the smallest detail.

The atmosphere, organisation, food, and service were immaculate, and the team made us feel at home. What an experience. This place deserves three Michelin stars. Well done, everyone!

The advice I’d give is to let the place wash over you before trying to analyse it. Start with the freshness of the radish, the pear, the scallops. Enjoy them first, then, if you feel like it, think about how they connect and what they bring out in you. That reflection can follow the experience; it doesn’t have to be the point of it. For me, the aim seems to be bringing you closer to the chef’s nature, meaning the region, by taking it apart and playing with it. I’d heard La Grenouillère recommended several times by chefs I asked for advice on two-star restaurants during my tour, so I finally went. I’d already completed both challenges, visiting every three-star Michelin restaurant and every Parisian starred restaurant in 365 days. Now I’m revisiting many of them and trying the “main” two-star places too. This review is about the restaurant. It’s easy to arrive with high expectations after hearing so much, and those expectations can get distorted by other people’s reviews. Like hearing too much about a film, it can color your own experience. So my advice, which is a little ironic coming from me, is to avoid reading too many reviews first. The atmosphere, design, and foodie crowd can all push you toward an intellectual reading of the meal. Resist that urge and relax into it. The guests were mostly foodies and couples, and the wine list had some good names on it. A very solid two stars.

The cooking brings together delicious combinations and approaches you may not have come across before. It’s all served in a setting that feels charming and modern at once. A brilliant experience for the senses, and the kind you’d want to have again and again, even if it feels like a once-in-a-lifetime treat.
