Résidence Le Sun Valley

We had a patio window opening onto the slope, which made it easy to pop back for lunch. The room in Building B was large and worked for our needs, with two double beds and a sofa bed, though it had a few problems: no cradle for the shower head, water from the shower got the hallway carpet wet, and the corridor doors banged. Most rooms have combo microwaves instead of an oven. The pool was good, and there was a hot tub, but the sauna and steam room weren't hot at all, which was disappointing. We had good skiing and snow during our stay. This was our second visit, and coming near the end of the season made a noticeable difference to the service. The price wasn't discounted, so I'm not sure we'll return in April. The resort and hotel location are good, and I hope the service on this visit was a one-off.

They cancelled our Easter booking just a week before we were due to leave, throwing our whole holiday into chaos. We had booked 3 apartments for 14 people, and had to find somewhere else at short notice, paying through the nose. Aviva insurance wouldn't pay out because the reason for cancellation was unusual. They gave some cock-and-bull story about not having a safety certificate. It seems clear to me that they knew they wouldn't honor the booking, since they had cancelled others over half term and Christmas, but still waited until the last week to cancel ours. Read the reviews. Dishonest, disgraceful behavior. Don't book here.

We only found out by chance, while reading reviews in the week we were due to arrive, that the accommodation had been shut down over some kind of safety issue. Our arrival was booked for 18th January, and they took full payment on 1st January, after it had closed. They never contacted us, and didn't respond to calls or messages. Thankfully booking.com, who didn't know about the closure either, managed to move us to better accommodation at short notice. If we hadn't seen those reviews, the 8 of us would have arrived to find the place closed and nowhere to stay. Being shut down is bad enough, but continuing to take payments and not telling booked guests is reprehensible.

The pool was murky and uninviting, and the ski lockers were covered in mold, a far cry from the glossy photos and promises that sold us on the place. There were also basic upkeep problems: door knobs came off with the slightest touch, cabinets seemed ready to fall apart, and the kitchen knives were so blunt they struggled with soft cheese. I booked it for a ski holiday expecting the advertised 4-star experience, but the stay was remembered more for these shortcomings than for the slopes. I know every visit can have its own challenges, but this was well below the standard I'd expect from a place claiming four stars. I hope they take this as a reason to rethink what hospitality should mean and make the needed improvements. Until then, I can't recommend it to future guests seeking the promised 4-star stay.
