Résidence Goélia Les Chalets de Wengen

The rooms are a decent size, but the quality was awful and the apartments were dirty. During our stay, the bathtub started leaking underneath the tiles. They looked into repairs and told us we couldn’t use it for the rest of the visit. They offered to move us, but it was 9PM after we’d been unpacked for two full days, so moving then was very impractical. We stayed put and just avoided the tub. The hot tub costs extra, and renting towels comes with an insane charge if you haven’t brought your own. It all feels very DIY. At checkout, management made no effort to keep us happy when we asked for a discount because we couldn’t use the bathtub. They just said, “nothing we can do”. It’s not worth it; consider booking somewhere else.

Getting into town and over to the piste was easy. The apartment looked good and was clean when we arrived, but it felt small, and the kitchen needed more basics, including a grater, serving spoon, plates, and bowls. The fridge handle had fallen off, which was irritating whenever we wanted food, and you had to hold the showerhead to use it. I booked another Goelia apartment at a different resort the following week with the same star rating, and none of the problems I had here.

The staff were pleasant and helpful, and the ski lift was only a few minutes away. There’s a small, lovely village square with bars, restaurants, and shops. My son and I stayed for a week, and it was just right for us, with plenty of room to cook, eat, and relax.

It’s a quiet, relaxing base for a ski holiday, with great mountain views, and I’d happily return. The apartments are spacious and well furnished. The sofa bed in the lounge was especially good, with a memory foam mattress. The one thing missing was an oven, which seemed a small oversight given the quality of the rest of the furnishings and fittings.
