Mercure La Roche Sur Yon Centre

We were really pleased with this hotel after a tiring day on the road. The staff were friendly, and our family room was spacious, spotless, and stylish. We also enjoyed dinner at one of the two hotel restaurants, and breakfast the next morning had a tasty variety of food. We were travelling from Cherbourg to Capbreton with our daughters, who are 11 and 8, and stayed for one night. We'd happily choose this hotel again on the same trip. I only wish we'd booked it for the return journey too, but we have other plans and won't be in the area.

Cédric was welcoming, and Barbara made check-out feel warm and professional. The receptionists were the best part of the stay. The grey-black room, though, was a poor choice: it felt dark and uninviting.

The rooms are kept very clean, and the staff are pleasant and helpful. During our 12-night stay in July, we had a good-sized room with an en-suite, a walk-in rain shower, handbasin and WC. The large double bed was comfortable, extra pillows were provided, and there was a mini fridge with a complimentary bottle of water. The breakfast buffet is still as good as ever, with a huge selection. A large "Monkey Place" bar has since been built in the breakfast area. When it's busy, guests have to eat at small, low tables for two, which isn't comfortable. I feel the new bar takes up too much of the space. We had good weather and could use the tables in the rear courtyard instead. I've stayed here five or six times, and this was my first visit since Covid. In the evenings the courtyard serves as a restaurant, but we always prefer the many restaurants in the town centre, a couple of hundred yards away. Le Pas Sage is our favourite, where Steph and Claire make you feel welcome.

After the long trip to the Vandée, this was a welcome relief. The staff were lovely and keen to help in English. It seems like the most modern place in town, with everything looking new, a great location, and two places to eat.
