Les Gens De Mer La Rochelle

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the breakfast and coffee were great. Good value and a good location, highly recommend.

I ended up here because of the train strike and got a nice room with a comfortable bed. At around 58 euros, it seems to be about the cheapest option in La Rochelle at this time of year. The room wasn’t modern, but it was clean and roomy enough, and had shower products and a hairdryer. The shower was the one downside, since it was really small, although at least it didn’t leave water everywhere like my previous night at the Ibis Budget. The woman at reception was very nice to me.

We chose this place because they accept dogs and there’s a little park next door for walking one. It’s very well situated near the city center, but the hotel itself is mediocre, with small, outdated rooms. The French-style breakfast was OK for the price. Parking out front costs 30 euros per 24 hours, while hotel parking costs 12 euros until 11 a.m.

I was left out 700 euros, and having to find an Airbnb and pay again made my stay financially difficult, a problem that has continued to affect me. I’m a student, and I believe I was discriminated against because of my ethnicity. I strongly advise people not to book here. I don’t know about the owners or the other employees who were nice to me, but the woman who handled my reservation left me with no service and no money, all with a smile on her face. The hotel had made a mistake and didn’t tell me my room was no longer available. I tried to sort it out amicably, but the woman at the register told me to wait, then corrected her mistake by telling Booking that I hadn’t checked in. Booking automatically messaged me that the reservation was cancelled and I wouldn’t get anything back. When I contacted Booking, they said the hotel had taken all the money and no longer had it.
