La Manufacture Royale

We spent a lazy Sunday afternoon by the outdoor swimming pool, and there’s plenty to explore around the property. The factory tour is well worth doing if you’re interested in the history, and gardeners will enjoy some fine tree specimens in the park behind the Chateau. If you’re feeling energetic, you can walk through the forest to the lake or cycle along the river. We stayed at La Manufacture Royal for a lovely weekend in early July. We’d seen the factory site in the Netflix series ‘Les Combattantes’ and wanted to find out where in the Vosges it had been filmed. The new owner Frédéric welcomed us, and he speaks English, which was a bonus. It’s an interesting place to stay, tucked away off the beaten track. We had one of the best nights’ sleep in a while, in a clean, comfortable room, with the fast flowing river running through the grounds lulling us to sleep. Breakfast was excellent, with partisan breads and fresh croissants baked by the baker on site in la p’tite pause. Under the new ownership of Sophie and Frédéric Bouvier, La Manufacture Royal is changing, and we’d love to come back to the area in a few years to see whether their plans have come to life.
