We spent a week at Atlantic Green with our family of five, and were very pleased with the stay. Our villa was spacious, practical, and extremely well equipped, with neutral but tasteful decor. Having a good-sized pool of our own was a real bonus. The resort among the pines is very pleasant, with nature all around. We were on the forest side, which was nice; I think the stay would have been less enjoyable on the road side. The linen rental and end-of-stay cleaning charges were a bit high.
The quality of the villas is mixed: some look lovely and well cared for, while others feel more dated. The residence itself is in a beautiful spot, with the golf course just a short walk away. Cycle paths go to the beach, 2.5 km away, which makes it a really good base for a holiday in Lacanau.
Stay away! The villa looked good from a distance, but it was in a dilapidated state. The circuit breaker kept tripping, the living room shutters didn't work, and a leak from the upstairs bathroom sent water down the stairs. Around the pool, several concrete slabs shifted underfoot and were dangerous. The cleaning was poor, there was no on-call service, and the service was incompetent for an exorbitant price. Unacceptable!!
The site is splendid, and the houses are nicely designed and pleasant. But the residence is very old and poorly maintained. When we arrived, the cleaning hadn't been done: the fridge and kitchen bin were dirty, and there were breadcrumbs on the floor and in the cupboards. Having to clean up after other people at the start of a holiday is not great. For a place of this caliber, it's worrying.
We've been there 12 times since 2008, staying two or three weeks each visit. The estate is beautiful and very peaceful, at least in June and September, and the villas are spacious and fully equipped. We have especially fond memories of villas 10 and 12, though they've since been sold and removed from the catalog. Several other villas have also been sold and are no longer available. The experience with the service used to be better and easier, back when one villa was set aside for guests and had free Wi-Fi. Now you have to go into Lacanau-Océan, where parking is paid, though the staff are still friendly and dedicated. The booking service in Bordeaux was easy to deal with, and everything happens quickly online. Still, like everywhere, it feels less personal now, as if you're just a file number. Over the years we've also seen some villas and pool areas age without enough maintenance. I don't think the pandemic helped. Lacanau-Océan has changed a lot in the last three years, perhaps because of the pandemic. Good French and local restaurants have become burger joints, and parking now costs money everywhere. The season is short too: some businesses only open from mid-June to mid-September.
