Lodging Le Lac

The location is fantastic, especially if you're into windsurfing, and Mountchic is worth checking out too. The lodging itself is spot on, with all the little details thought through. The staff were really friendly. Don't let the earlier reviews put you off.

The place itself was beautiful, but dealing with the owners made the stay bizarre and unpleasant. Right after we arrived, the woman at reception asked for EUR 30 for two loads of laundry and one dryer. When we chose to do only one wash, the price suddenly became the usual EUR 5,70. By that pricing, she seemed to think one dryer cost over EUR 15. The owners gave off an arrogant, negative vibe toward us and, as other reviews suggest, toward other visitors too. They laughed and talked about us while we were standing nearby, and probably behind our backs as well. They also gave us unwanted French lessons in a very arrogant way. That could have been nice with a friendlier attitude, but it wasn't. We've read the other reviews and the owners' replies, and it seems they have a hard time looking at their own behavior toward guests. I expect they'll respond in the same unfriendly, detailed way, blaming us and saying this isn't true. When so many former guests describe similar experiences with the owner or manager, it seems there must be some truth to it. I strongly recommend taking a different approach and looking at how you treat people.

The campsite's in a great spot, but it was poorly run. Our pitch was wide open with no privacy, and the VIP pitch we got looked nothing like the one in the website photo. The bathroom cubicle had no ventilation and reached 40 degrees. It was unbearable, with no mirror, no shower temperature control, and scalding water. There's a bar, so I went to order a beer at 7:30pm. They started talking about me in French, apparently thinking I couldn't understand. I could, and they were basically calling me an English drunk. They'd never met me before, and I hadn't had a drink. The bar stayed closed for the rest of our stay. There was no shop or bakery on site either. I wouldn't stay here again.

We had a nice time overall, and the campsite is close to the lake and a few restaurants. It's a cool, well-equipped place with lots of quirky accommodation, and the staff were nice. We stayed in one of the small basic cabins. It was pleasant, but the bed felt like a trampoline and was very uncomfortable. We hired an air mattress from reception for the second night, but it deflated while we slept. The organisation could definitely be better. I'd still recommend staying here.
