The countryside here is dreamy, and it’s hard to imagine a better place to relax and unwind. There’s beauty and history all around, and the staff are wonderful. I’d call it a five-star place, except for our dinners. We ate here two nights in a row and paid €50 per person, but the delicious mushroom side dish, cheese course and dessert were the same both nights. We weren’t expecting that, and I hope it was just an unusual case rather than how the restaurant normally works. We’ll definitely come back, but we won’t eat here two nights running.

The food was a highlight every day, fresh, creative and really satisfying. The château is old and full of character, with gorgeous scenery around it and a cosy, quirky atmosphere that has a bit of a “Fawlty Towers” feel, in a good way. It's warm and full of personality, a rare place for anyone who prefers character to corporate polish. And there’s a secret prision cell in the basement, too.

The garden's a lovely place to unwind, and breakfast was great. The rooms were good and the service excellent. The pool is nice, if not amazing. One downside was the heating pipes, which made irregular noises and could make it hard to sleep.

We got married here in 2015, and while we were nearby we came back for a visit. It was still as magnificent as we remembered. Claude and Slyvie are such lovely hosts.

Sylvie and Claude made us feel so welcome and were always happy to chat. They gave us great recommendations and helped with organizing our big day. We had a wonderful wedding at the stunning château, and we'll definitely return for a stay at the Château d’Urbilhac.
