Chambres d'hôtes La Saint Patrick

We have fond memories of this place, and the value for money is unbeatable for anyone after an authentic stay in a peaceful haven. The view from the garden is splendid, and it stays quiet at night, with no street or bar noise. We did arrive alongside a very noisy, disrespectful family, but that wasn't the managers' fault. The manager is friendly and attentive. The menu is small, but the dishes are well prepared and more than adequate. When the restaurant is busy, guests staying at the hostel get priority. Breakfast is plentiful. The building and rooms feel authentic. There are four rooms per floor, with one clean shower and toilet on each floor. No hairdryers are available, and the beds are a bit hard, though we slept comfortably. The soundproofing between rooms is poor because of the building, so you hear doors, showers, and neighbors on the same floor. It seems popular with hikers, who sleep well at night ;)

I liked the concept of this photo exhibition bar, and the vintage setting added to it. I was looking forward to meeting someone who shared my interest in panoramas, but the welcome was cold. The owner may have had some issues. It went from warm to cold, which was a shame.

The homemade cakes are very good, but the bar felt rather uncommercial. Charging €1.30 for a glass of water was surprising, especially since there were 10 of us.

There's a little lounge on the landing, with benches facing Brest harbor and the Aulne estuary. It's a nice place to read when the weather's bad. This feels like staying at my grandmother's house in Paris, back in the 70s: when someone gets up in the evening or morning, the floor creaks, doors squeak, and taps gurgle. The walls aren't well insulated. Still, it's a very family-friendly cottage. The bedrooms are clean and functional, the bedding is fairly comfortable, and although the toilets and showers are on the landing, they're clean too.
