Monsieur Gerard made breakfast excellent and complete, and was always happy to chat and suggest places to see. The all-stone house is about 3 km from beautiful Dinan. Our upstairs room was very clean and roomy enough, with the bathroom only five steps away outside the room. An excellent option.

The accommodation itself was clean, tidy, charming, and peaceful. Our table was set, breakfast was served, and for most of the stay Gérard was friendly and we chatted quite a bit. When we left, he shook our hands and wished us a safe journey. We had given him an 8/10 on Booking.com with a good review, deciding not to let the arrival incident affect our rating. Our only other drawback was that there was no key for our room door. But then, back home, I got this message from him: "Hello, you're useless, but your partner isn't. Hope not to see you again." I was flabbergasted. The stay had gone well, we had no problems, and he'd seemed happy when we left. I didn't understand why he sent it, especially when he hadn't said anything to our faces. Shameful. The incident started when my partner and I had booked a night and asked if we could check in before 5 p.m. Gérard answered very coldly that check-in was after 5 p.m. and that we could cancel if that didn't suit us. It was just a question, so that wasn't very diplomatic. We then asked, politely, if we could leave our luggage before 5 and check in later. He kindly said we could drop it off around 2 p.m. Circumstances meant we couldn't make it by 2, so we arrived at 5 as requested. I had temporarily lost access to a SIM card in my phone and couldn't tell him we weren't bringing the luggage after all, which I can see may have annoyed him. When we arrived at 5 there was no hello or welcome. He kept us outside and scolded us for nearly 10 minutes. We felt embarrassed that we hadn't let him know and apologized repeatedly, trying to calm things down. The welcome was frosty, when a simple comment would have done.

Personally, everything was flawless, so thank you for such a lovely stay. When something goes wrong, it should be said, but even more so when everything is perfect. Greetings from Brittany :)) Gérard knows the region well and made us feel at ease. The place is quiet, the room warm, and the bathroom beautiful, with a separate toilet on the same floor. Cleanliness is a given here, and the breakfasts had lots of variety and locally sourced food.

Gérard made us feel right at home in his beautiful house near Dinan. He welcomed us so warmly, shared lots of ideas for seeing the area, and made delicious breakfasts. We'd highly recommend a stay and hope to come back. Pierre and Samantha
