I’m hoping to return to the Loire Valley, and that France will let Americans in again next summer. I checked the website for current details. A few years ago, I stayed here for a few days while heading more or less from LeMans back toward Paris. I’d stayed with Victor and Maria at both of their Paris hotels long ago, and was delighted to hear they’d bought this beautiful property in Contres, since Victor had wanted a restaurant of his own. I got to relax and revisit nearby sights. It’s an elegant, tastefully appointed place in a beautiful part of France, with great hosts and food. It was a memorable visit, and I look forward to coming back.

We had many good conversations with the owners and heard about how they transformed the property. Their years in French hospitality really show in the way they share their understanding of French culture and cuisine. They’re both lovely, gracious people. It’s a wonderful base for exploring the Loire Valley, and we’ll definitely return!

The setting was beautiful, and our hosts were incredibly kind. They communicated well and gave us helpful ideas for exploring the region. Breakfast was very good, with orange juice, homemade jams, and delicious croissants. We enjoyed dinner on arrival; it was good, though a little pricey, and the foie gras was very high quality. Thanks for a brief but very enjoyable stay.
