Campanile PRIME - Paris Porte d'Italie

Breakfast was good, and the metro is about a 7 minute walk away. Nice place.

The restaurant and buffet were much better than I expected. Great location, and a really nice hotel.

It was affordable, the breakfast food was quite good, and the Porte d'Italie metro is close by. That’s about where the positives end. The room smelled of stale cigarettes, the bathroom was nasty, and there were discolored patches on the walls. The bedspread had dark curly hairs all over it, and lots of plywood was exposed and water damaged. I can’t imagine staying here again. Maybe it beats a park bench, though that might depend on the weather.

The air conditioning was filthy, looked broken, and didn’t work. Reception said it was centrally controlled and set to heating for now, and maybe they’d switch it to cooling in June. Water had leaked onto the wooden trim underneath, leaving it warped and with peeling paint. There were also brown marks on the walls, and the door frames and other furniture were badly damaged. The outside of the building looks old and needs more than a quick coat of paint, though paint alone would only cover the surface. Calling this the worst hotel I’ve stayed in is an understatement. I would have preferred a backpackers hostel. Even on a tight budget, you can find somewhere better, though it may be farther from central Paris.
