The food had great flavor and was very good. We’d made a mistake about the size of our party when booking a large family table, but the staff quickly and easily found a solution, which we appreciated. The portions were the one thing everyone at our table had an issue with. There was very little meat and pasta, and only a small wedge of squash, so it didn’t feel like enough. Seconds weren’t available, unfortunately, though they quickly offered us some fries on the side.

We enjoyed this little restaurant so much while staying at the campsite that we went back for a second meal that week. The food was excellent, and it was a lovely setting. The atmosphere felt relaxed and friendly, with efficient service and a great sense of humor.

AC/DC was playing, Karmeliet was on tap, and then Tom Waits came on. Couldn’t have asked for a better day. So far, this has been my best meal in France.

The food is really good, but the atmosphere felt very odd. A lot of the menu was unavailable, and we ate in the dark, using our phones for light. With some proper lighting and an explanation of the strange things, this could be a very nice place.

We stopped for a pleasant lunch near the center of Le Monastier. The ingredients were good quality and well prepared, and the atmosphere was relaxed and unpretentious. They really cook here, so be ready for a little wait. It’s worth it, and the waiter was excellent. We’d happily recommend stopping by.
