Hôtel Gabriel

The room was dated and tiny, but functional for one night. The hotel felt a bit like military barracks, and there are no elevators, so keep that in mind if mobility is a concern. On the plus side, the Mont Saint-Michel bus stops right outside, with restaurants nearby and a walking path and place to sit close by.

The hotel is noisy all night, which made it hard for me to sleep properly as a light sleeper. Otherwise, the rooms were fine. The location is perfect: Mont Saint Michel is a 30-minute walk or a 10-minute ride on the free shuttle, which stops right in front. We stayed one night and paid the €10 parking fee, which seemed reasonable for the area.

The location was great and the room was generally clean, though there were lots of spiderwebs and mosquitoes, and the carpet seemed a bit questionable. For a basic hotel, it met most of our needs. I would've paid for a coffee from the self-service machine, but you could only use it if you bought the full continental breakfast, which we had to arrange in advance. There was no water available, no vending machine, and the nearby shops close early. It would've helped if the welcome water station stayed open around the clock, or if we'd been warned to pick up a few bottles before everything shut.

The rooms are on the small side, so don't bring big suitcases, but it was manageable for a one-night stay. Staff were friendly and breakfast had lots of choice, though it costs extra. The location is great, with a shuttle stop right outside and the option to walk across the causeway. They give you a parking code for the restricted area, then you pay €10 when you leave. Get breakfast early and head to Mont St Michel before the big crowds.
