Hôtel la Croix Blanche

The one clear advantage is the location on Mont Saint-Michel. Beyond that, Hôtel de la Croix Blanche wasn’t worth the price for me, especially with a 3-star rating. I stayed one night and found it more like a rented room or “chambre d’hôte” than a proper hotel. On arrival, the hotel was locked and there was no one at reception. I called and was directed to check in at another hotel. Apparently a separate establishment manages several properties, and this building felt deserted, like an annex. The corridors were empty and dated, and the place had no atmosphere. My basic room, 502, needs renovation. Its window faced a roof where seagulls nested, making it extremely noisy throughout my stay.

A lovely bay view made the cozy room feel even more magical and comfortable. It was also a great spot to spend a night or two and enjoy the calmer atmosphere on Mont Saint-Michel in the morning and evening. The staff were super friendly and helped me a lot when I had a transport problem.

The view was wonderful, and the quirky feel of the place was exactly why I chose it. The small spiral staircase up to the top level meant climbing five flights, so we got quite a workout. I'm glad we only had carry-on bags, or I might have died hauling them up! Once the tourist buses leave, the medieval little island becomes peaceful and quiet. Staying two nights is definitely worthwhile for exploring. The rooms are small because the original buildings are beautiful. It was a standout of our European tour just for being so unique.

We felt like we'd struck gold here. Room 508 is amazing if you don't mind climbing 75 steps. There's a little living room with a sleeper sofa and a restroom on the first level, then upstairs are three single beds. The windows open right over the bay, and the view is beautiful. We have nothing negative to say, and the staff were super friendly.
