Le Relais Du Roy

The room was a little dated, though clean and perfectly fine, and breakfast was good. We picked Le Relais du Roy because we wanted to stay on the mainland beyond Mont St. Michel, and it worked out well. The staff were wonderful and helped us get a dinner booking at a nearby restaurant we could walk to.

We had a nice stay. The location and service were good, especially for the price, though the room felt a bit outdated.

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and it’s within walking distance of St. Michel, a walk we really enjoyed. The whole area is very touristy, of course, and getting into the compound costs 10€ for 24 hours. There are restaurants nearby, including “La Salicorne,” where we had a great burger. The hotel restaurant seems to have been closed since covid, reportedly because of staff shortages, as seems to have happened with many restaurants. The smell in our room was the worst part. It was like “wet dog,” and even leaving the balcony door open all night didn’t clear it. I couldn’t have stayed another minute. Pets, including dogs, are allowed, so I can only assume that might be where the smell came from. Everything else about the room was okay, but that stench is why I’d give it only 2 stars. Breakfast was a letdown. The room had no atmosphere, with hard chairs and a school cafeteria feel. We were among the first in at 7:15 am, so the selection was all there, but nothing was replenished when it ran out. The baguette was old and needed to be toasted. A fresh cranberry bread was good, but disappeared quickly. Tea water tasted of coffee since it came from the same machine. I could boil an egg.

The hotel is quiet and sits in a beautiful spot. We booked the cheapest room for one night but were upgraded to one with a river view, which meant we could afford to add breakfast and still save money. The rooms aren't new, and the bathroom and shower look about 40 years old, but everything was very clean and worked. The mattress was comfortable, the water was warm, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The reception staff were especially lovely and friendly. It may be a 3-star hotel, but to us it deserved 5. Thank you, we'll come back and definitely recommend it.
