The setting is the standout here. La Danchere is a lovely little village, and the walk from there to Lake Lauvitel is beautiful, with a stunning blue lake beneath dramatic mountain slopes. It can get busy on summer weekends, so a weekday visit may be nicer. The climb from the hotel is just over 500m, which takes some effort, though reasonably fit people should manage it. We saw lots of kids making the walk too. We stayed two nights and enjoyed meeting other guests around the shared table, which seats about 10, for breakfast and dinner. Dinner is a set three-course menu with no choice, but they can accommodate special dietary needs if asked. The food was delicious and plentiful. There's also a lovely shady garden with chairs, tables, and a hammock for drinks, lunch, or snacks. Caroline was a wonderful, friendly host, and the whole staff were helpful. One staff member picked us up in Les Ougiers and drove us the last few kilometres, then took us back at the end of our visit, so the lack of public transport wasn't a problem. Hope to return someday!
We arrived at the lodge soaked from the rain at the end of a six-day hike, and the staff welcomed us in and couldn't have been more helpful. In the beautiful dining room, we had a delicious meal beside a lovely warm fire. I can't recommend it enough!
A mountain lodge that feels like home. The retreats follow nature and the seasons, and everything is prepared with love. The food is nourishing and exceptional, and Caroline's coaching is next level when it comes to creating shifts.
It's hard to put into words how magical this place is. We spent a whole week here as a family, and the staff and owner went out of their way to make us comfortable. They were incredibly warm and friendly. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable, and the mountain setting was breathtaking. There's hiking for all levels, and the lake is a must-see. Half board includes a communal breakfast and a three-course dinner, with generous portions lovingly prepared and incredible value for money. You can get lunch and snacks separately in the garden, and enjoy a well-earned beer after a day in the mountains. Our highlight was a guided forest meditation with the owner for the whole family. We felt connected to the nature around us and refreshed for the journey ahead. We'll definitely return every year, and you will too.
