The best parts were the meal, which was really good despite the five-star bill, and the very tasty sandwiches they made for us to take on the road. The staff were somewhat friendly too. But at 144 euros, our tiny room was poor value, with dirty floors and dust and grime in the corners. The lobby was messy and dirty, and the room just continued that impression. They put four stars on their cars, though the hotel only has three, so they should be upfront about what guests will find.

We had a lovely four-day stay at Le Castel a couple of weeks ago. There are fantastic walks right outside, and it’s dog friendly. The setting is lovely, the welcome was warm, and our room was nice. We also ate at the restaurant, which was very good, though a bit expensive.

The breakfast had little choice for 19 euros, and the restaurant was okay, but not worth its prices. I wouldn’t describe it as gastronomic. We were also charged 4 euros for a pitcher of water with our wine without being told in advance. Water is free by law in France, and the excuse afterward was that it came from a local source. That’s unacceptable. Our room wasn’t very clean, and the layout wasn’t ideal. The room photos bore no resemblance to what we got: the supposed stylish privilège suite was bland and made with cheap materials. Overrated, and I wouldn’t recommend it. It isn’t worth the money.

The restaurant was a real highlight, with high-standard French food and perfect service. Our room was comfortable, breakfast was nice, and the staff were friendly. It’s a great hotel in a beautiful area.

The dinner was high quality, and breakfast had a decent range of choices, though you do more for yourself: squeeze your own orange juice, cook your egg, and peel your fruit. Our room was on the small side, with a fairly narrow double bed, about 140 cm wide. It’s a nice hotel and restaurant, even if it isn’t really a castle.
