Hôtel Espace Champerret

The room was newly renovated and the bed was comfortable. You can leave your luggage after checkout, and Louise Michael Metro is right nearby. But there's no actual air conditioning, despite what the hotel and booking websites say. The receptionist told me it was already cold and they had turned on the heating, even though it was 19 degrees celsius. I realized that evening the heating wasn't actually on. Ventilation was poor, and I could smell cigarette smoke in my room without knowing where it came from. Soundproofing between the door and corridor was bad, so I could hear everything outside. The hotel email and website gave checkout as 12noon, but the receptionist said 11am. It's also far from the tourist areas, and getting there meant taking two metro lines.

Don't book the breakfast. The room was quite nice and clean, some staff members were pretty nice, and the location is excellent for getting around by public transport, with Louise Michel Metro just around the corner. The buffet's selection and food quality were at least okay. The trouble was how breakfast was handled. On the first day, we arrived around 9:30 am, still within breakfast hours, and sat down. Soon after, the room cleaning staff began ironing shirts inside the breakfast room, about 2m from our table. That felt odd. The last morning was much worse. Before we went in, we saw the woman responsible for breakfast at reception talking with other staff. Several tables already had used dishes on them, and there were no clean knives, spoons, or plates. The buffet was a mess, with cereal scattered around and hardly any bread, baguette, croissants, cheese, or ham. We tried to make do while it kept getting worse. When the woman eventually came back, another guest complained that things had run out. She responded very rudely, then went into the kitchen beside the breakfast room and hid there, watching guests through a small window in the door instead of cleaning or refilling the buffet. A horrible and strange experience.

For the price, things were mostly okay, but we booked a three-bed room and got two beds and a sofa bed. That would've been fine if there'd been enough bedding. We got just two duvets and one dirty blanket. When we asked the receptionist for another duvet, he only shook his head. The shower never got full pressure because water came out of both the showerhead and the regular bath tap. The corridors were noisy, and there was lots of construction outside the window. The doors were broken, so the emergency exit was left open 24/7 and anyone could get in. After we found bites on all three of us the next day, I changed this to a 1 star and attached a photo of what caused them.

We arrived today, tired and early, and the front desk gentleman was very nice. He got our room ready quickly. We wanted a safe place near the train with lots of restaurants, and so far the area feels right. It's very safe to walk at night. Families and kids on scooters are all over the street, and we even let our two daughters get pizza and walk back to the hotel. There's a little garden and sitting area too. The hotel is right by the train station, with a fruit stand outside, a bakery half a block away, dry cleaners and pharmacies across the street, and several grocery stores and fruit stands nearby. Our room wasn't what we'd booked. We expected a double bed and two twin beds, but got a bed, a loft, and a couch. I pulled the couch out. The nice man at the front desk asked a woman about it, and she yelled at him, so we decided to leave it there. We've been here one day, and so far it's been a good experience. I'll update if that changes over the next couple of days.
