Occidental Hotel

The air conditioning in our room didn't work. Maintenance came and said it was working, just not able to get very cold. Friends traveling with us had the same problem the next day. A young maintenance worker removed a filter from a ceiling panel in their room, and after replacing it, the air worked fine. He did the same in our room, and ours worked too. The online room photos felt like a bait and switch. We'd reserved a king bed, but got two twins that weren't even pushed together. They were so low that my backpack sat higher. The room looked straight out of the mid-70s, with mold in the bathroom, carpet stains, and sewer smells coming from the floor drain.

An old, very retro hotel. They said it was full, so we had a long wait to check in. The older man at reception barely communicated with us. Later, nicholas treated us much better and helped us out, so thanks to him. Still, not the best experience. For that price in Paris, I'd look for somewhere newer.

The rooms are quite large, and the place has a nice, cosy feel. It's close to a Police Station, which I liked. Staff, especially at the front desk, were friendly and accommodating. The corridors are confusing and a bit like a maze, but overall it's a good hotel.

After a long guided tour around Europe, my husband and I stayed at the Occidental. The service was outstanding and very personal, with the entire staff going above and beyond for our needs. That included everyone from the general manager to the absolutely amazing bellmen. It was a delightful way to end our trip.
