Hilton Lille

The room was clean and tidy, with a comfortable bed and a good amount of space for a standard room by European standards at this level. It was on the top floor and came with lounge access. The food, lounge, and breakfast were just so-so, a little below average in my opinion. Still, given the price and how handy the Lille location is for getting around downtown, there isn’t that much to complain about.

The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the Wi-Fi fast and reliable. There’s an awkward setup with the TV right in front of the curtains, so the fabric catches on its cables when you close them. The room also has a table and armchair instead of a desk, which wasn’t easy to work at. Breakfast was okay, though I’d have liked more vegetarian choices beyond cheese. Getting around was easy, both from the train station and into the town center. I checked in on the app and gave my arrival time, but when I got to reception no one was there. I waited 15 minutes late at night and was already tired. The bartender eventually went to find someone. When the man arrived, he said very little and didn’t apologize for the wait. I’ve stayed twice recently, but think I’ll try another hotel next time.

I’m a Hilton Honors member, and I’m writing to warn future guests about what I believe was a serious security failure and an unprofessional response at Hilton Lille. We checked out Sunday at 11:15 a.m. and realized my iPhone was still on the opened sofa bed. At 1:50 p.m., I used Find My iPhone to track it live. I remotely activated Play Sound. The phone rang for five seconds, then someone manually switched it off. To me, that shows someone in the hotel was handling it and silenced it to avoid being caught. The phone had connected to Hilton Guest Wi-Fi on the eighth floor, where our room was. The Hotel Manager suggested the GPS might have been showing Gare Lille Europe or the parking garage. I don’t believe that explanation is technically possible given the Wi-Fi connection and the pinpoint’s floor-level accuracy. Management said that by the time they investigated, housekeeping had already stripped and remade the sofa bed. They didn’t secure the room or linens as soon as I reported the phone. I contacted the hotel immediately on Sunday, but heard formally from the Manager only on Wednesday evening. That three-day delay gave whoever took it ample time to get it off the property. The hotel’s final response was to blame an external housekeeping partner and tell me to call the police. I followed that advice and filed a formal theft report with the Lille Police, with GPS screenshots and timestamps showing the manual power-off. Management has spent the past week making excuses. If you expect Hilton-level care for your belongings and a proper response to a security issue, look elsewhere. The management seems more concerned with protecting its partners than its guests.

We stayed several days with family. As a Hilton member, I could use the executive lounge, but there was no food there, no hot meals, and no alcohol during happy hours. The 50 euros per night deposit supposedly released on departure took five weeks to come back. My negative Google feedback was deleted after a few months. This hotel doesn’t deserve Hilton’s tier or membership.
