Hôtel Gambettes - Encore Mieux

We’ve never had a worse accommodation experience on holiday. We booked three rooms at Gogaille, 4 Rue de la Prefecture, with a shared living room and kitchen, and the place looked promising online. We arrived late, expecting no reception and a phone-based check-in. We could open the outside entrance and two of our room doors, but not the third. After a few minutes on the phone, the service team unlocked it remotely. Just before we went in and turned on the lights, we heard a voice inside. We shut the door, and someone ran over and locked it from the inside. Another person was in the room we’d booked, and Gogaille had just unlocked it for us remotely. It was shocking for us, and surely for the person whose room had been opened to strangers just before midnight. The service team suggested we use their other hotel, Gambetta, so we picked up our suitcases, walked 10 minutes back to where our cars were parked, paid for parking, and went over there. We had to call again to sort out which rooms to use. While following their phone instructions, we found that one of the proposed rooms was already unlocked and not prepared at all. Once we’d agreed on three new rooms, we went downstairs to the shared kitchen for a glass of wine and a chance to calm down. The bread and croissants meant for breakfast the next morning were left uncovered and covered in flies and other insects. We filmed the details. Later, when we went back upstairs, we couldn’t unlock one of the doors again. At 3am we called the team AGAIN, and they remotely opened it without any real security checks, not even asking for a name. By then we felt completely unsafe, and moved furniture behind our closed room doors so nobody could be let in while we slept. We asked for a refund or compensation for all the trouble that night. Whenever we’ve contacted them by chat or phone, we’ve been told they’d discuss it with their manager, but despite chasing them repeatedly there’s been no update. I’d suggest staying away and finding somewhere else.

The rooms and facilities are good, though it feels a bit odd to go your whole stay without seeing any staff. Don’t forget your phone, since you need it to get into both the hotel and your room.

The rooms were clean and the beds were really comfortable. Great location too. Fab!

Very clean, lovely place. I’d recommend it for a short stay in Limoges.
