There are plenty of free parking spots, and the location gives you good connections. It's cheap and decently clean, though it can get noisy in the morning and the rooms are very small. They'd recently refurbished it, and for a one-night stay at that price, it's pretty decent and great value.

This is only about the service before arrival, not the stay. I cancelled because the experience left me with a really bad feeling about how things would go. We booked two rooms and needed one on the ground floor for an elderly person travelling with us, since the hotel has no lifts. After booking through Expedia, I asked through its app if they could confirm a ground-floor room, but heard nothing. A few days before the stay I called the hotel directly on two consecutive days, and no one answered. Expedia managed to reach them on its second try, but said the hotel contact didn't speak English, which seemed strange for a hotel in a tourist town. Expedia emailed to ask about the ground-floor room too, and again there was no reply. With just two days left, I cancelled. Reception says it is open until 9 p.m., and late check-in is meant to be arranged with the hotel in advance. Since they hadn't answered my calls or replied to either of Expedia's two emails, I had no confidence that arriving late would go smoothly. In a digital age, this level of service is unacceptable. I'll take my business elsewhere.

The room had an ensuite and was reasonably priced. The linens were clean, towels were provided, and there was a fridge, microwave and smart TV. The ground floor was being renovated. It's in a good spot near the ferry port, with free parking, a petrol station, small supermarket and restaurant within walking distance. Noise was the main problem. Other residents and road traffic kept us up, with doors slamming, singing, shouting, swearing and children crying until 2 a.m.

The staff were okay and the outside was getting a makeover, but even for the price this place was awful. The room was small, shabby, grubby-looking and poorly maintained. The walls and surfaces felt icky, and a light fitting was hanging down. I actually thought about sleeping in the van. We nicknamed it the Hotel Hepatitis. A shame, since it's a well-located stopover with a supermarket and fuel across the road.
