Gite de la Grenouille - 5-7 Places - Vallee D'aure

There's a river and hiking trails nearby, and the cottage feels spacious and peaceful. The view is beautiful, and the owners gave us a very warm welcome and were really helpful. A fantastic place.

The location is superb, and this is a beautiful place with a lot of history that deserves renovation. We stayed exactly three days. At first glance it seemed clean, and we were welcomed warmly, but after paying for cleaning I expected at least a clean shower. The tiles were sticky, the water leaked, and there was a foul sewage smell outside. Having stayed in several gîtes and other Airbnb rentals, I think there are better options for the price. In my view, the owners seem to count on transient guests to leave the place clean while charging for that service.

The cottage made a great base in the Neste Valley for our two-week July stay. The village is quiet, the garden is large, and the river is close by, with a beach within walking distance and a fairly popular catch-and-release fishing spot. Mountains for hiking and climbing, the river, and town are all within a 30-minute drive if needed. For somewhere advertised as "nature-friendly," I would have liked more information about local plants and animals, and about things to see and do nearby. The owner knows a lot if you ask him.

Hiking trails go right by this lovely gîte, surrounded by greenery, with the river just 50 meters away and a cliff 100 meters away. The interior is beautifully furnished. Maelle and Jean Guillaume run the place, with Maelle guiding guests in the mountains and Jean sharing his cooking expertise. A truly unique experience for anyone ready to make the most of it.
