Montempô Lyon Part Dieu

It's been a week since I checked out, and the hotel still hasn't returned my deposit, even though the receptionist said it would be refunded right after I left. The convectors also didn't work, so the room was very cold during autumn.

The family suite was quiet, clean, and spacious, with two rooms: one had a double bed and the other had two single beds. The double bed felt a bit small for two adults. The bath and toilet were separate, clean, and a good size. Bedding, linen, and towels were provided. A small but useful kitchen had crockery, cutlery, and basic cooking utensils, along with a dining table and four chairs. The windows, shutters, and curtains helped ventilate the rooms. It was air-conditioned, and the building felt secure, with keycard access to the elevator. Check-in was smooth, reception was available around the clock and helpful, and the building felt safe. There was a refundable €60 deposit, separate from the rent. The location was peaceful and felt safe, on a straight, easy-to-follow route that took under ten minutes on foot from Lyon Part-Dieu train station. An €8-per-person breakfast buffet was offered, though we didn't try it. Having a kitchen was handy for self-catering, especially with family. Basic toiletries included shower gel and dish soap. The setup worked well for families, and the suite seemed practical for families or groups wanting a convenient, secure, comfortable stay in Lyon.

This feels like an Airbnb, where guests are expected to wash dishes and take out the trash before leaving. The night and morning staff were nice, but the afternoon staff were rude. When we asked for an extra sheet to use instead of the comforter because of the heat, they looked and spoke to us as if we were thieves. The AC couldn't be set above 21°C, and because it was separated from the bedroom by a wall, that room stayed too hot. Hallway lights were on a delayed sensor, so you'd walk in darkness for 10 to 20 seconds at night. Although the hotel prohibits smoking, smoke smell came through the AC, and we had to open the window to clear it. They also tucked a fussy inventory list inside the utensils cupboard, warning of charges for missing items and effectively expecting guests to count every spoon and fork at the start. I could go on. Do yourself a favor and avoid this mess. Edit: I added a photo of the list.

On June 13, 2025, the seventh day of a 16-day stay, we found the room very nice and large enough for four people. It was inexpensive for the location, near the train station in a quiet neighborhood. Although it looks close to the station on a map, the walking distance depends on which route you take.
