Best Western Plus Hotel d'Europe et d'Angleterre

The staff suggested some restaurants and kindly booked one for us. The place we chose was excellent. Our standard room wasn't huge, but it was plenty spacious for two and very comfortable. The buffet breakfast had a good selection, from French pastries, fruit, cheese, and bread to eggs, bacon, sausages, and hash browns, with filter coffee and juice too. The hotel is in a perfect spot near the town centre, with Saint Laurent just across the river on foot. A really good place to stay in Mâcon.

My parents stayed there on 18 June 2025. At checkout, the manager said the 150 euro deposit would be back in their account that evening. It never arrived. We called several times and were told it had already been transferred, with an email confirming it to follow, but no email ever came and they still haven't got their deposit back. I don't like how this has been handled and won't return to the hotel. I'll contact booking.com to ask how we can get the money back.

The hotel is in a beautiful old building, with very quiet rooms, which you don't take for granted in an older place. We had a nice bed, good parking, and friendly young staff at reception. This was our third visit, and we chose a room overlooking the street and river because we liked it better than the indoor patio view from our first stay. I do think the customer service could be more helpful in its tone. When I said I'd arrive at 12, I was told the room was only available at 15h. It would have felt more welcoming to say we could leave our bags and might get in earlier if the room was ready, without promising it. The same goes for asking for a wine glass. Being charged 6 euro to use an empty glass felt odd when we were paying for an executive room. Corkage makes sense in a restaurant, but not in a hotel room. These are management issues that could be sorted out by treating customers as people to help, rather than people who might fail to follow the rules. If you bring a bottle to a bar and ask us to open it and provide glasses, this is a paid service, regardless of which room you stayed in. Our corkage fee is €6. I would be curious to know what a bar or restaurant would charge if you asked for the same service. We are sorry the offer did not suit you, and hope it won't be your only memory of your stay in Mâcon! Your explanation clearly applies to restaurants and bars, but not to hotel rooms!

It's easy to find and sits nicely on the banks of the Saone River, with easy access to the highways around Macon. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the bed was great, and breakfast was wonderful. A beautiful, remarkable hotel. I'd highly recommend staying here!
