We booked easily by phone the day before, and Rosalie greeted us warmly at 8 the following evening. On arrival, we were invited to have wine and a swim in the pool. Our bright, airy double room had an en suite shower, leaflets and books including some English novels, plus TV, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning if wanted. Rosalie also gave us friendly advice on the many dinner places across the bridge in the town centre. Breakfast was generous, with a wide spread of choices. I had a ham omelette, different breads and toast, jams, and coffee. The two French couples at the big round table kept things lively, and both French women separately praised Rosalie's croissants. We were pleased with our chance choice. The chateau near the centre is a real gem, with its history involving Louis XIV and Francoise d'Aubigné, its architecture, and the huge Roman-style remains of the Maintenon aqueduct, which was intended to supply Fontainebleau's fountains. The Vieux Logis website reviews are worth checking too.
