La Follye Mancey

A good base for exploring Southern Burgundy. The setting is rural, the bedrooms are roomy, and breakfast is generous with local products.

The owners, Marc and Frédérique, were very kind and ready to help with requests. We also enjoyed unwinding in the garden or by the swimming pool. The farmhouse is in a quiet little village, and we spent four nights there in this quaint chambre d'hote in southern Burgundy. It's easy to reach from the Lyon-Paris highway, with plenty of historic places nearby, including Brancion Castle, the medieval village of Cluny, Cormantin Castle, Serçi Castle, Chalon-sur-Saône, and Tournus Abbey. There are three spacious en-suite rooms and a small apartment with a kitchen. Breakfast was plentiful and varied, with local cheeses, homemade jams, fresh croissants and baguettes, and locally made apple juice.

We slept comfortably, and breakfast was excellent. Frédérique and Marc welcomed us warmly and made sure we had what we needed for a comfortable stay. We chose La Folly Mancey for one night because it's ideally located not far from the motorway. The quiet was striking, with almost complete silence. A lovely little memory was seeing swifts come down to drink from the pool. A huge thank you to Frédérique and Marc for their kindness and the fascinating conversations with such passionate people!

The room was spacious and clean, with nostalgic decor, though there was no TV. It's a small, sleepy village not far from the motorway, and the hosts were very friendly. There isn't a restaurant nearby, unfortunately. Breakfast was served in the kitchen at a big table, where it was easy to chat with the hostess and the other guests. It was adequate, with cold cuts, cheese, eggs, and homemade jam.
