Campanile Manosque

The beds were okay at 1.60 m, and the terrace was nice, but there were too many problems for a three-star hotel. The wooden construction and thin walls made the rooms noisy. We stayed four days and had breakfast each morning: twice there was no toast, and on the fourth day some of it seemed to be leftovers from day three. The breakfast wasn’t a highlight. The dinner is no longer a buffet, and the starters were always the same three options: a vegetable plate, charcuterie plate or quiche. Only part of the main course changed each day. Dessert was much the same, though you could choose from five options. Portions were tiny, and dishes like steak and fries came without salad or even mayonnaise. Prices are okay, but for 17.90 euros you’d do better at the Flunch 2 km away for half the price. For a more decent meal, there’s plenty of choice in the centre of Manosque. The rooms are typical Campanile, not very spacious. Some toilets needed flushing three or four times, and water nearly dripped from the cistern. The car park was not controlled: we repeatedly saw people without permits taking the disabled spaces, and staff said nothing. Shame on them. We come to Manosque every year and have stayed at IBIS, IBIS Budget, Le Provence and Brithotel before. We tried this Camanile this year. It was okay once, but we won’t book it again. Too many negatives and very few positives.

The breakfast was okay, and for the price I wasn’t expecting much. Still, the room could have been cleaner, especially around the entrance. There weren’t enough power outlets, and the TV didn’t work.

The staff were helpful, and the restaurant is an okay fallback when nowhere else is available in town, like on a Sunday night. It takes about ten minutes to walk to the old town, though Manosque isn’t a place I’d want to spend more than a day. The hotel itself needs a serious renovation: the rooms are dated, the walls don’t block sound from next door, and the beds are noisy.

Good value for money. The room was clean and spacious, and the heated bathroom was a welcome extra alongside the air conditioning in the room.
