We had such a lovely honeymoon here. The dinner was good and the service was too, and the place is close to the Loire river valley. Our room was spacious and elegant, set in a grand castle with a beautiful garden.

We hung our towels up as the green guest advice asked, but they still replaced them every day. The superior room was beautiful, though its tap kept dripping and the bath plug mechanism came loose when turned. At reception, I got no apology or offer to sort it out, just the explanation that it was an old castle. That didn't seem fair to me, since these were poorly maintained 1970s fittings, not problems caused by the castle itself. It's a beautiful place and the conversion was thoughtfully done, but the maintenance needs more care.

In the lovely Chateau setting, we found a carefully put together menu and a superb wine selection at a fairly reasonable price. The food and service were excellent, and it felt like very good value. This little jewel of la Loire was a happy surprise.

The breakfast was pretty poor compared with other places I've stayed in France, even the Ibis hotel in Fontainebleau. The least expensive rooms are outside the castle, more like in the stables. They're spacious, but awkward to get to, and you'll get wet going back and forth to the chateau if it's raining. For me, staying beside the chateau doesn't justify the price.

The food was incredible, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Both the building and its location are beautiful.
